WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team made it back-to-back conference victories with a dominant 18-1 win at McDaniel College on Saturday. The triumph marked the 200
th career win for head coach
Pat Gress.
The teams split the opening two goals of the contest and remained tied until
Luke Jenkins beat the buzzer with a tally at the end of the first quarter. The goal sparked a 17-0 Garnet run over the remainder of the game. Swarthmore held the Green Terror to just eight total shots over the final three quarters. The Garnet limited McDaniel's opportunities, winning 18 of the 22 face-offs.
Jenkins finished with three goals and two assists for five points in a breakout performance for the rookie.
Ryder Maston tallied four goals and one assist while
Emmett Harris notched one goal and three helpers.
Dylan Ah Now and
Ronan Butler each scored twice. Eleven different players found the back of the net for Swarthmore.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jenkins opened the scoring just 43 seconds into play. The Green Terror evened it up at the 9:44 mark and it was 1-1 until Jenkins beat the horn with his second of the game to give the Garnet a 2-1 edge entering the second quarter.
- Swarthmore pulled away in the second period, tallying eight goals while keeping McDaniel off the scoreboard. Maston led the way with three goals while Ah Now potted two.
- The Garnet continued to impose their will in the third, outscoring the Green Terror 4-0 to build the advantage to 13 (14-1). Butler scored twice during the stanza. Swarthmore put an exclamation point on the victory with four more goals in the fourth, including the first career markers for
Liam Duhame and
Auden Seigel.
