No. 16 Women’s Tennis Takes Down Haverford, Defending Unbeaten Centennial Record

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 16 Swarthmore College women's tennis team defended its perfect conference record with a 6-1 victory over Haverford College on Wednesday afternoon. 

Lola Diaz and Erin Li were both two-time winners, triumphing at top doubles before picking up wins at first and second singles, respectively. Ella Strickler also earned a pair of wins at third doubles and fifth singles. The junior has won 10-straight singles matches.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Diaz/ Li battled to a 6-3 decision in top doubles, while Strickler/ Riya Rao followed with a 6-2 win at the third position. The Fords bounced back to win at second doubles, but surrendered the opening point to the home Garnet.

- Diaz became a two-time winner with a commanding two-set victory at top singles. The senior claimed the opening set 6-2, before closing out her victory with a 6-3 decision. 

- Li grinded out a three-set win at second singles. The sophomore traded a pair of 6-4 decisions, but closed the final set with a 10-3 edge to claim victory. 

- Lisa Messier battled for a two-set decision at fourth singles. The senior held on for a 7-5 win in the opening set, and then closed things out at 6-3. 

- Strickler continued to overmatch her opponents at fifth singles, capturing her 10th-straight triumph. The junior held on for a 6-4 decision in the opening set, but cruised to a 6-0 victory to win in two sets. 

- Uma Pogrebivsky was victorious at sixth singles. The rookie opened with a 6-4 decision, before cruising to a 6-2 win in the final set.

The Garnet (9-5, 5-0) host the University of Mary Washington on Saturday.
