No. 19 Men’s Lacrosse Rebounds with Gritty Win Over Kenyon

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 19 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team bounced back with a hard-fought 13-9 victory over Kenyon College on Saturday morning. 

Ronan Butler led the Garnet with three goals and one assist. The sophomore set a career-high while collecting his first collegiate hat trick. Ryder Maston had a well-rounded performance, tallying five points on two goals and three assists. The senior had the highlight of the morning with a no-look, over-the-shoulder score to net the final goal of the third quarter. 

Jack Nicholson paced a strong defensive performance with three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Jack Rice also collected a team-high seven ground balls, while Jack McHenry had six.

Drew Tyson put together a stellar performance in goal, making 13 saves in a winning effort. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet jumped out to an early lead with a dominant opening quarter. Owen Hoffman started the scoring at 8:28, while Rex Mabbs added another goal just moments later. Kenyon put themselves on the scoreboard at 3:22, but the Garnet finished the stanza strong with goals from Maston and Ben Zabierek in the final minute of play. The rookie Zabierek dazzled the crowd, beating a pair of defenders and muscling his way to a score in the final seconds of the quarter, making it 4-1. 

- Owen George and Zabierek added to Swarthmore's lead with a pair of early goals to open the second. Almgren assisted George's goal with an excellent pass from across the post. The Owls ended the stanza on a 3-1 swing, cutting its deficit to three goals. Hoffman then got the Garnet back on track with a goal, before Kenyon countered with one more score before the break. Swarthmore went into halftime with a 7-4 advantage. 

- Kenyon threatened Swarthmore's lead with two-straight goals to open the third quarter, pulling within one. Nolan Ohrman and Butler then got the Garnet back on track with consecutive goals to add some much-needed breathing room. Both teams traded goals at the end of the stanza with Maston lighting the lamp with a no-look score, giving the Garnet a three-goal edge. 

- Mabbs added to the Garnet lead with the opening goal of the fourth quarter. Butler then capped off a hat trick with a pair of fourth-quarter tallies, sealing a hard-fought win for the Garnet.
