GILBERT, Ariz. – The Swarthmore College men's tennis team is ranked ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings.
The Garnet are off to a 3-3 start this spring against top competition. Swarthmore took seventh at the ITA Indoor National Championship, earning a win against then-No. 21 Gustavus Adolphus College. The squad suffered a tough loss versus then-No. 1 Denison University, the reigning NCAA champion, but bounced back with victories over Division I Loyola University Maryland and then-No. 10 Amherst College.
Michael Melnikov is unbeaten thus far at first singles, boasting a 5-0 record, and
Rishi Verma has a 3-2 singles mark. The doubles duo of Melnikov and
Utham Koduri has split their four matches while the pair of
Andres Fente and
Kai Chen is off to a 4-1 start. The Garnet's third doubles team of
Max Lindstrom and
Winston Zhang is undefeated at 4-0.
Swarthmore heads to Texas for four matches over spring break, starting on March 10 versus No. 14 Trinity University.
