GALLOWAY, N.J. – The No. 19 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team was dealt its first loss of the season on Wednesday night, falling at Stockton University by a 16-9 score.
The Ospreys took over the middle of the contest, going on a 12-1 run that spanned the first through third quarters. The Garnet battled back, winning the fourth period 5-2, but they could not erase the deficit.
Ryder Maston led Swarthmore with four goals.
Ronan Butler and
Owen George notched one goal and one assist apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet scored two of the first three goals of the game, with
Clay Almgren and
Ryan Kim finding the back of the net. Stockton evened the score at two with 1:51 remaining in the first quarter, sparking a 12-1 surge that gave the Ospreys control of the contest. The home team led 13-3 with 3:24 to go in the third at the end of the run.
- The teams traded goals late in the third and the score was 14-4 entering the fourth quarter. Swarthmore then tried to rally, scoring four in a row to close the gap to six (14-8) with 7:31 left. Butler,
Owen Hoffman, Maston, and George all recorded a goal. However, Stockton squashed the comeback attempt, allowing just one more tally the rest of the way.
