COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The No. 25 Swarthmore College baseball team crushed three homers en route to a 10-4 victory at Ursinus College in a Centennial Conference contest on Tuesday.
The Garnet scored the first five runs of the game before the Bears closed the gap to two (5-3) through five. Swarthmore then pulled away with five runs across the sixth and seventh innings.
Zac Kahn,
Nathaniel Kittredge, and
Alessandro Propper-Bowring all hit a long ball in the win.
Aidan Sullivan went 3-for-5 and scored twice. He became the program's all-time leader in runs scored with 160, surpassing the previous mark of 159 set by Charles Levitt in 2019.
Kahn finished 2-for-5 with two RBI. Kittredge also tallied two hits and scored three times. Propper-Bowring knocked in three runs, drew a pair of walks, and recorded two runs.
Wilson Henze was 2-for-4 with one RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kittredge homered to lead off the second and give Swarthmore a 1-0 lead. Kahn upped the advantage in the third with a two-run shot after Sullivan singled with two outs. The Garnet tacked on two more in the fourth. Kittredge reached on an error and came home on a groundout while Henze recorded a two-out RBI single.
- Ursinus got on the board with a solo homer and an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth. The Bears cut the deficit to two (5-3) with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
- Swarthmore responded in the sixth as Propper-Bowring came home on an error. The Garnet then blew the game open with a four-run seventh. Sullivan opened the frame with an infield single and scored his record-breaking run on a single by
Deven Peterson. Kittredge had a base hit to put two runners on for Propper-Bowring, who smashed his sixth home run of the year to make it 10-3.
- Ursinus threatened to get back in it in the seventh, filling the bases before
Steven Jungers got a strikeout to leave them loaded. The Bears did tally a final run in the ninth but could not close the gap any further.
