SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The No. 21 Swarthmore College women's tennis team edged out No. 11 Carnegie Mellon University, 4-3, in a thrilling comeback on Sunday. It was the first loss of the season for the Tartans.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- CMU earned the doubles point with victories at the second then first flights.
Paola Almeda and
Kathleen Shiffer salvaged a 7-5 win for the Garnet at third doubles.
- The Tartans increased their advantage to three with back-to-back wins at fourth and third singles, needing just one more point to clinch the match. However, Almeda grabbed a 7-5, 6-2 victory at the sixth spot to get Swarthmore on the board.

Ella Strickler cruised to a 6-0 triumph in her opening set at fifth singles before digging deep for a 7-6 tiebreak win in the second set.
Lola Diaz then pulled the Garnet even with a come-from-behind 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 success at the top flight.
- The match came down to second singles where
Erin Li took the opening set 6-3. CMU rolled to a 6-0 win in the second to force a decisive third set. Li gutted out a 6-3 victory in the final set to complete the Swarthmore rally.
