SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team won its seventh consecutive contest with a 13-3 victory in seven innings over Rosemont College on Thursday.
The Garnet put up a seven-spot in the first inning and did not look back.
Noah Potholm pitched a solid six innings on the mound for the win. The senior allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits. He walked two and struck out a season-high seven batters.
Noam AuYeung led Swarthmore at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and a pair of runs.
Andrew Firko was 2-for-2 with a walk, three RBI, and two runs.
Wilson Henze recorded a double, drove in three, and scored twice while also drawing a walk.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet wasted little time getting on the board, scoring seven times in the opening frame. AuYeung led off with a bunt single, went to second on a passed ball, and came home on a double by
Brad Johnston.
Aidan Sullivan scored on another passed ball to put Swarthmore up two. With the bases loaded, Firko drew a walk to force in a run then Henze smacked a bases-clearing, three-run double to left to make the score 6-0. Henze then came home on an error to complete the scoring.
- The Garnet tacked on two runs in the third with Firko hitting an RBI single and Henze scoring on a wild pitch. The Ravens ended their scoring drought with three runs in the fourth. Rosemont registered a two-run single and scored another on an error.
- In the fourth,
Alessandro Propper-Bowring reached on a two-out hit by pitch and later came home on an error. Firko scored on a balk and Swarthmore led 11-3. Firko's sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 12-3 before
Aaron Williams hit an RBI single in the seventh to end the game via the 10-run rule.
