Baseball Hangs 30 Runs on Misericordia in Lopsided Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College baseball team dominated Misericordia University, 30-6, on a cold Tuesday afternoon. The Garnet posted their highest single-game run total in the past 20-plus years.

Aidan Sullivan added to his program-record career home run total with two more long balls, driving in four runs against the Cougars. Alessandro Propper-Bowring also continued to swing a hot bat, breaking the game open with a second-inning grand slam to lead the club with four RBI.

As a team, Swarthmore combined for 16 hits, 14 walks and were hit by five pitches. The boxscore featured 12 different run scorers and 11 players with at least one RBI.

Aidan Tinker earned the win, tossing the bulk of the innings with two earned runs over three frames. Gavin Rigby, who earned the start for Swarthmore, pitched a solid two innings while allowing two first-inning runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-  The Cougars struck first with a two-run opening inning, but their lead was short-lived. The Garnet answered with four runs off Misericordia's starter in the bottom half of the first. Brad Johnston plated the first run on a sacrifice fly after Leor Kedar's leadoff triple. Nathaniel Kittredge then doubled home the tying run, while Swarthmore added two more scores on a wild pitch and a throwing error.

- Sullivan launched a solo homer over the centerfield wall to begin a five-run second inning. The Garnet then loaded the bases before Propper-Bowring hammered a grand slam to left field, taking a 9-2 lead. Misericordia would respond with a three-run inning to pull within four runs.

- Swarthmore answered with four runs in the third inning to grow its lead to eight runs. Johnston singled up the middle to bring home a couple before his team was gifted two more runs on wild pitches, making it 13-5.

- The Garnet kept piling on with six runs in the fourth. Sullivan, Deven Peterson and Kittredge singled home four runs in the inning. Misericordia then surrendered another pair of runs on two separate wild pitches, putting themselves at a 19-5 disadvantage.

- Swarthmore put the game out of hand with 11 runs in the fifth. Sullivan mashed his second homer of the day, lifting an opposite-field blast to left. The Garnet then scored once on an error, twice on a hit-by-pitch and four times on a walk, while Zac Kahn and Propper-Bowring added RBI knocks to build a 30-5 cushion.
