Men’s Lacrosse Powers Past Arcadia in Bounce-Back Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The  Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team bounced back with a dominant victory over Arcadia University, 17-9, on Saturday. The Garnet raced out to a 7-1 lead in the opening period, and never looked back as they cruised past the visiting Knights.

Ryder Maston tallied his second six-point effort of the season, leading the team with five goals and an assist. Clay Almgren followed with five points on one goal and four assists, while Rex Mabbs and Nolan Ohrman both added hat tricks.

Drew Tyson made 10 saves with only five goals allowed in 41 minutes of action. Jack McHenry was strong in the faceoff circle, winning 14-of-22 with a game-high eight ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet scored goals on their opening two shots. Nolan Ohrman started the scoring at the 11:18 mark, while Ben Zabierek followed suit just a few seconds later. Following a Tyson save, the Garnet scored in transition on a Maston score after Zabierek sprinted the ball upfield for a successful clear and assist. Maston ended the quarter with two more goals, while Ohrman added his second and Rex Mabbs got on the board, creating a 7-1 advantage after the first.

- Arcadia opened the second with a goal, before Mabbs and Almgren answered quickly with consecutive tallies. The Knights gathered some momentum with a pair of unanswered scores, but Maston erased their progress with back-to-back goals before Zabierek finished the half with another tally. Swarthmore took a commanding 12-4 lead into intermission.

- After an Arcadia goal opened the third, Mabbs scored in transition after the Garnet raced upfield with little resistance. Jamie Weyerhaeuser then followed with his first goal of the season, while Owen George and Ohrman piled on for the team's third and fourth-straight scores. The Knights ended the period with a goal, but trailed by double digits with a 16-6 deficit.

- The Knights started to chip away at their deficit with three goals in the opening eight minutes of the fourth. Max Garcia broke up the scoring with a Garnet goal, notching his first of the season. Ryan Pretzer and Samuel Cristinzio then shut the door to blank Arcadia in the final seven minutes.
