Women’s Lacrosse Sweeps Spring Break Slate, Overpowers Cornell College

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team exits spring break with a pair of victories after handling Cornell College, 19-3, on Friday morning. The Garnet broke out to a commanding 9-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Swarthmore received goals from 12 different players in another well-rounded performance from the squad. Claire Long and Evie Marks both collected hat tricks with three-goal efforts. Marks also added an assist to record a season-high four points.

Elizabeth Walsh played the bulk of the minutes between the pipes, making four saves in 45 minutes of action. Sadie Steffens also saw a quarter of play as she kept Cornell's offense off the scoreboard.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kate Fox opened the scoring with a goal in the first minute. Kela Watts and Carly Rodrigues-Reilly then added a pair within a minute of each other, while Long followed with consecutive tallies to sprint out to a 5-0 lead with 9:29 left. Swarthmore continued to add on with goals from Aubree Daugherty and Fox to score the team's sixth and seventh unanswered goals. Cornell finally broke through with a score at the 6:27 mark, but Long and Isabella Fermo notched a couple more to end the period with a 9-1 Swarthmore lead.

- Five different Swarthmore scores provided goals in the second quarter as the defense blanked the Bears. Fermo scored her second-straight tally to open the period, while Megan Kim and Olivia Eaton both contributed their first collegiate goals. Later in the stanza, Marks and Cata Tarantino piled on with scores to build a 14-1 edge.

- The Bears scored to open the third quarter, but were quickly overtaken by a string of three-straight Garnet goals. Marks found the back of the net once again, while Jamie Dwyer and Elle Pedaci closed the quarter with scores, making it 17-2.

- Marks and Eaton shut the door on Cornell with a pair of fourth-quarter scores. The Bears added a late goal, but were unable to make a dent in its massive deficit.
