Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TX - The No. 21 Swarthmore College women's tennis team dropped a competitive battle against No. 12 Trinity University (Texas), 5-2, to wrap up its spring break slate on Thursday morning.
Swarthmore got off to an outstanding start, capturing the doubles point. Lola Diaz and Erin Li headlined the performance with a victory over Trinity's nationally-ranked top doubles duo. However, the Tigers made up ground in singles play with a 5-1 edge.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- After a loss at No. 2 doubles, Swarthmore evened the score with a win at third doubles. Paola Almeda/ Kathleen Shiffer rallied for a 6-4 victory to keep the Garnet alive in doubles action.
- Diaz/ Li picked up a marquee victory over the eighth-ranked doubles team in the nation. The Garnet duo impressed with a 6-4 decision to clinch a doubles point for their squad.
SINGLES
- Diaz dropped a pair of 6-3 sets at top singles, while Li fell 7-5, 6-5. Both competitors faced nationally-ranked opponents.

Lisa Messier dropped her No. 3 singles matchup with a 6-1, 6-4 decision. Shiffer then fell 6-0 in the opening set of fourth singles, before dropping a competitive 6-4 showdown in the second set.
- Ella Strickler picked up the lone singles win for the Garnet with a two-set victory. The junior took the opening set 6-4, while finishing off her opponent with a 7-5 decision in set two.

Hannah Kideckel suffered a narrow 6-4 defeat in the opening set of No. 6 singles. She then fell 6-2 in the final set.

The Garnet (3-4) return to action with a pair of matches, next Saturday. Swarthmore will travel to Muhlenberg College, while playing host to Gettysburg College.
