Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls to No. 19 Franklin & Marshall

LANCASTER, Pa.  - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team suffered a setback on the road with a 86-71 loss to No. 18 Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.

Four different players scored in double figures for the Garnet. Zander Jimenez and Matthew Maloney both led the team with 12 points, while Brady Kageyama and Eddie Paquette added 11 and 10, respectively.

Maloney had an efficient night from the floor, shooting 5-of-7 from the field in his third double-digit outcome of the season. The rookie fell just one point shy of matching his season best for scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet jumped out to an early 10-7 lead in the opening five minutes. Devin Burger started the scoring with a three-pointer, while Kageyama closed the run with another triple. The Diplomats controlled the ensuing five minutes with a 14-2 answer as they built a nine-point advantage, 21-12.

- Cal Hanson settled things down for the Garnet with four-straight points. Both teams exchanged buckets until a Nyle Coleman three brought the team's deficit back to seven points with 5:42 left.

- The Diplomats seemed poised to end the quarter strong, rallying for six-straight to increase their lead to 13 points. Maloney helped get the Garnet back on track with an and-one bucket as the team limited the damage heading into halftime, 43-31.

- Franklin & Marshall opened the second half with a pair of threes to take an 18-point lead. The Garnet then flipped momentum with three-straight triples from Jimenez, Paquette and Kageyama to pull within 10 points.

- Jonathan Stump and Maloney hit from long range to keep the Garnet afloat as they tried to keep pace with the Diplomats offense. Swarthmore eventually used an 11-2 run to shrink its deficit to single digits, 68-60, with 6:40 left.

- Just as the Garnet began to gain momentum, the Diplomats delivered a massive blow with a 12-5 run. Kageyama did his best to keep the Garnet alive, nailing his third three of the afternoon, but the Garnet could not match F&M's hot hand down the final stretch.
