Men’s Basketball Overpowers Washington College, Clinching Centennial Playoff Berth

SWARTHMORE, Pa.  - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team returned to the win column with a 87-69 victory over Washington College on Wednesday night. The Garnet swept the season series against the Shoremen, while securing a Centennial Tournament berth.

Zander Jimenez led all scorers with 20 points, while shooting 4-of-7 from three. The sophomore was joined in double figures by Eddie Paquette (12), Devin Burger (11) and Brady Kageyama (10). Burger totaled a double-double, grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds.

As a team, the Garnet posted their second-highest shooting percentage of the season. Swarthmore shot 47.8 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Burger put the Garnet on the board with a backdoor cut, leading to a slam. However, the Shoremen lit up the scoreboard early with an 8-2 start. Moments later, the Garnet responded with five-straight points, which was capped off by a Cal Hanson three.

- Later in the first, Burger hit from long range to even the score with 11:29 left. Andrew Park then muscled his way to a contested layup to give his team its first lead, 16-14.

- The Garnet took control of the game with 12-unanswered points. Kageyama closed the run with five-straight to pull ahead by seven. The Shoremen answered back at the other end with a three-point play, but Hanson provided an immediate answer with another long ball, making it 24-17.

- Swarthmore increased its lead to double digits with a Burger three ball. Jimenez then laid in a loose ball to increase the team's lead to 33-20 with 4:20 left. The Garnet continued to pile on with back-to-back threes from Paquette and Jimenez. Swarthmore went into halftime with a 17-point lead after a last-second, acrobatic tip from Jimenez, 47-30.

- The Garnet took a 21-point lead after Jimenez drilled a three from the wing with 11:20 remaining. The bucket capped off a 12-4 stretch for the Garnet. Moments later, the sophomore connected on another three to take a 64-42 advantage at the midway point of the second.

- Washington threatened with eight-unanswered points, shrinking its deficit to 14 points with 7:25 left. Jimenez then added a bucket out of a Garnet timeout, before Nyle Coleman and Jimenez knocked down consecutive threes to quickly increase their lead to 72-54.

- Moments later, Kageyama hit from long range before coming away with a steal and feeding an assist to Paquette, who hit the team's 14th three of the night. Swarthmore took a 24-point lead with 4:11 to play, securing a dominant victory.

- Dominic Greaves slammed the door shut on the Shoremen, scoring five points in the final two minutes of play. The junior hit a layup and a three-pointer to close out the game.
