No. 22 Women’s Tennis Takes Down Division-II Jefferson

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 22 Swarthmore College women's tennis team outlasted Division-II Jefferson with a 4-2 victory on Saturday morning.

The Garnet won doubles with a comeback victory from Lola Diaz and Veronica Komorek in top doubles. Swarthmore then sealed victory with singles wins from Erin Li, Ella Strickler and Madeline Posner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Maya Morandat Stilling/ Uma Pogrebivsky made quick work of their No. 3 doubles opponents, rallying for a 6-1 victory. Kathleen Shiffer/ Riya Rao then lost a competitive, back-and-forth battle at No. 2 doubles, falling to their challengers 7-5.

- With a doubles point in the balance, Diaz/ Komorek fought back and persevered with a 7-6 victory at top doubles. The duo edged out the Rams 8-6 in a tiebreaker, claiming a crucial doubles point for the Garnet. The Swarthmore pairing trailed early in the tiebreaker, but battled its way back to steal a point from the Rams. 

SINGLES
- Li won in two sets at top singles. The sophomore claimed both sets with a 6-4 decision. 

- Strickler won a three-set showdown at No. 3 singles. After dropping the opening set 6-3, the junior bounced back with a 6-2 triumph. She then closed the match with a 10-4 victory in the third set.

- Posner picked up the clinching win for the Garnet. The sophomore took care of business at No. 6 singles, winning 6-3, 6-2 to outduel the Rams. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet (2-2) return to action during their spring break trip to Texas on March 10-12.
