LANCASTER, Pa. – Swarthmore College's
Michael Melnikov earned Centennial Conference Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday.
Melnikov went unbeaten during the eighth-ranked Garnet's run at the ITA Indoor National Championship, going 5-0 as Swarthmore finished seventh in the tournament. He defeated the reigning NCAA national singles champion from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a thrilling 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-4 decision. He also picked up a 6-4 doubles win versus the 4th-ranked Stags. Melnikov cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 top singles victory against 11
th-ranked Johns Hopkins and added a 7-6 (7-5) doubles triumph. The senior ended the weekend with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 win versus 21
st-ranked Gustavus Adolphus.
Swarthmore returns to the court on Saturday with matches against Loyola University Maryland and Denison University.
