Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The No. 22 Swarthmore College women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season with a 5-2 triumph over No. 25 Christopher Newport University on Saturday at Washington and Lee's Groundhog Palooza.
Kathleen Shiffer and
Ella Strickler each notched two wins to lead the Garnet.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore made it a clean sweep in doubles play.
Erin Li and
Lola Diaz picked up a 6-3 win at the top spot. Shiffer and
Paola Almeda were victorious at the second position, 6-2, while Strickler and
Riya Rao produced a 6-0 shutout at third doubles.

Lisa Messier and Shiffer battled to three-set triumphs at third and fourth singles respectively. Messier came out on top with a comeback 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory while Shiffer also persevered in come-from-behind fashion 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.
- Strickler grabbed a straight-sets 6-4, 6-1 win at the fifth spot while
Hannah Kideckel recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the sixth flight. The Captains got their two wins at the top two positions, defeating Li 7-6 (7-2), 6-3, and Diaz 4-6, 6-0, 6-1.
