Men’s Basketball Falls to Ursinus in Physical Battle

SWARTHMORE, Pa.  - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team dropped the season series against Ursinus College, 81-72, on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet currently sit in fifth place in the Centennial standings with two games left.

Eddie Paquette put together a well-rounded performance to lead the Garnet, scoring a team-high 19 points with eight rebounds and three assists. Zander Jimenez joined the senior in double figures with 15 points, while Devin Burger totaled nine points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Prior to tipoff, the program honored seniors Quaye Agoyo, Cal Hanson, Burger and Paquette for Senior Appreciation Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hanson and Jimenez hit a couple early threes as the Garnet kept pace with the Bears. Ursinus then rallied for five-unanswered until Jimenez drained another triple to pull within two points, 13-11.

- Paquette scored six-straight points for Swarthmore, as his squad made it a one-possession game with a 6-2 run. The Bears then put their foot on the gas with a 10-2 swing to build a double-digit lead, 29-19.

- Jimenez knocked down four free throws in the final minute of the opening half to help match the Bears' offense. Ursinus went into the locker room with a 39-29 lead.

- Caleb Aurelien and Burger opened the second half with consecutive threes, trimming the team's deficit to five points. The duo combined for the team's first nine points of the second half.

- Brady Kageyama muscled his way to an and-one bucket to come within four points of Ursinus. The Bears would then respond with three-straight layups to expand their lead back to double digits, 53-43.

- Following four-unanswered Swarthmore points, the Bears tightened their grip with six-straight of their own. Ursinus would hold a double-digit advantage until Kageyama hit from long range with 3:55 left, bringing the team's deficit to nine points.

- Swarthmore kept themselves within striking distance as the clock edged closer to zero. Kageyama nailed a jumper, while Paquette hit from deep just a few seconds later to pull within seven points. However, Ursinus handled business at the free throw line to secure a key conference win.
