No. 15 Women’s Soccer Cruises Past Muhlenberg in Pride Night Victory

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 15 Swarthmore College women's soccer team overpowered Muhlenberg College with a 5-0 triumph on Wednesday night. The Garnet registered 38 shots without conceding a single Muhlenberg attempt.

Five different goal scorers showcased the team's depth in a typical well-rounded effort for the Garnet. Celia Kanellakos tallied the lone first-half goal, while Ava Gizzie, Charlotte Carleton, Sarah Kushnir and Anwen Reed all piled on in the second half.

Sofie Aird recorded her third shutout of the season, while the Garnet registered their seventh as a team. The Swarthmore defense was excellent in front of their keeper as the home team dominated possession the entire game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet overwhelmed the Mules with a flurry of shots in the opening minutes. Kanellakos and Madison Stockwell immediately forced the keeper into some early saves, while Gizzie challenged the Mules in the eighth minute with a shot that was turned away.

- Haley Lewinski nearly connected on the opening score after hitting the post in the 24th minute. Swarthmore eventually broke through in the 34th minute with the opening score from Kanellakos. Stella Saad found the dangerous midfielder inside the box, who buried a strike for her fifth goal of the season.

- The Garnet were on the attack early and often in the second stanza. Gizzie notched their team-leading seventh goal of the season with an assist from Kanellakos in the 54th minute. Liesel Blau almost added to the lead with a well-timed strike in the 66th minute, but was robbed by an excellent save from the Mules keeper.

- Carleton joined the scoring with a goal in the 73rd minute. The senior totaled her sixth goal of the season after Eleanror Shanholtzer set her up with an assist. Sarah Kushnor then earned herself a penalty kick in the 79th minute, capitalizing on the strike for her third goal of the season.

- Reed wrapped up the scoring with her fourth tally of the season. Mia Daniel-Morales intercepted a goal kick in the 86th minute, which led to a golden opportunity for Reed. The junior took advantage of the advantage, drilling the game's fifth and final tally.
