SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team bounced back with an 62-55 victory over Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday night.
The Garnet overcame the injury bug with season-high performances from Catherine Chadwell and Emy Chen. Chadwell totaled a career-high in scoring with 25 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and four steals. Chen was equally as excellent, notching a career-best 16 points with five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams exchanged buckets in the opening seven minutes, resulting in a 9-9 deadlock. Swarthmore began to take control with six-straight points after a Chadwell bucket and a pair of layups from Chen. The Owls flipped momentum in the final two minutes, ending the quarter on a 7-0 swing to take a one-point advantage into the first intermission, 16-15.
- Chadwell set the tone early in a strong second quarter for the Garnet. The first-year earned a tough three-point layup to regain the Swarthmore lead. After a flurry of five-unanswered from Bryn Mawr, Chadwell got her squad back on track with a pair of free throws before Mathews hit from long range to return the lead to the Garnet, 23-21.
- Bryn Mawr cut its deficit to one point with a three-pointer at the 2:38 mark. Kaylah Jacques then held off the surging Owls with a three in the final minute, before the Owls countered with one more long ball to pull within two at the half, 31-29.
- Swarthmore overwhelmed the Owls with a 10-0 run to open the first seven minutes of the second half. The Garnet hit on six-straight free throws to open the stanza, before Chadwell added a pair of buckets to build a 12-point advantage, 41-29.
- The Owls helped salvage a lackluster quarter with consecutive free throws to cut their deficit in half. Swarthmore held on to its six-point advantage as they entered the final quarter with a 44-38 edge.
- Bryn Mawr kept chipping away at the Garnet lead, eventually pulling within two points at the 3:49 mark. Chadwell then gave the Garnet some much-needed breathing room with a layup before Mathews knocked down four-straight free throws to build a six-point edge with 1:15 left.
- The Owls made things interesting with a three-pointer with 1:07 to play, cutting its deficit to three points. However, Swarthmore sealed the game with a 6-of-7 stretch from the free throw line, icing the game in the final minute of play.
