Field Hockey Walks Off Overtime-Thriller at No. 23 Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team won in dramatic fashion with a 3-2 overtime victory at Ursinus College on Tuesday.

Annika Hoyer walked it off with a golden goal in the 70th minute. The first-year tipped in a Magdelana Jordan attempt to play hero for the Garnet, who scored three-unanswered goals to overcome a two-goal deficit.

Jordan had another magnificent performance for Swarthmore, tallying three points - including the game-tying score. The junior has scored in the previous three games to lead the Garnet to three-straight wins over the stretch.

Liza Semenenko tallied the first score for the Garnet for her team-leading 11th point of the season. The first-year's tally proved to be a pivotal momentum swing for Swarthmore, who outshot its opponent 11-2 following Semeneko's score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet had a couple scoring chances in the first quarter, but were unable to capitalize. Jordan fired a shot on goal in the fourth minute and had another attempt blocked, moments later. Swarthmore held a 4-1 shot advantage with a 3-1 edge in penalty corners in the opening stanza.

- Ursinus tilted momentum in its favor with a pair of goals in the second quarter. The Bears struck early in the opening minute of the stanza, before tacking on another tally in the 26th minute. The Garnet threatened with several chances towards the end of the half. Nina Wiggins and Semenenko fired off back-to-back shots in the 27th minute, but had both attempts saved. Cassandra Conklin then helped keep the Garnet in the game with a pair of saves in the final minutes of the quarter.

- Semenenko swung momentum in Swarthmore's favor with the team's opening tally in the 42nd minute. The first-year hammered home a corner feed from Zoe Larson as she rocketed a shot through a crowded circle. The attempt deflected off an Ursinus stick to cut the Garnet deficit in half heading into the final stanza.

- The Garnet evened the score early in the fourth quarter on an equalizer from Jordan in the 49th minute. Avery Bloom drove the ball towards the cage, which was deflected high off the stick of Jordan. Late in regulation, Semenenko had a few chances on goal, but Ursinus was able to survive the attack to force overtime.

- Swarthmore carried momentum into the first overtime, dominating time of possession with excellent midfield defense. The Garnet kept the ball on their attacking side, as they maintained a persistent attack against a worn down Bears defense. Hoyer eventually came through for her squad in the final minute of overtime, tipping in a pass from Jordan. The goal was challenged by the Bears and sent for video review, but was eventually upheld.
