Field Hockey Shuts Out Gettysburg in Fourth-Straight Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College field hockey team scored a pair of second-half goals to defeat Gettysburg College, 2-0, on Saturday night. The Garnet won its fourth-straight game as they improve to 3-0 in the Centennial.

Before the start of tonight's game, the Garnet honored its five seniors: Cassandra Conklin, Sarah Cooper, Caroline Vos, Emma Duffield and Amelia Landry. The team also celebrated its Team IMPACT match, Lucy, earlier in the day as part of the department's Team IMPACT celebration.

Annika Hoyer and Liza Semenenko tallied scores in the third and fourth quarters to lift the Garnet past the Bullets. Hoyer scored the game-winner in the 36th minute, while Semenenko provided the Garnet with some breathing room in the fourth. Hoyer, who has now scored in four-straight games, was also credited with an assist on Semenenko's score, tallying three points for the game.

Cassandra Conklin made one save in a shutout victory over the Bullets, marking her fourth shutout of the season. She is one shutout away from tying the program's all-time career record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Defense ruled the opening half as both teams combined for just two shots. Gettysburg was responsible for both attempts, but were unable to register a shot on goal. The Bullets also attempted the only corner of the stanza, but were turned away by Swarthmore's defense.

- The second quarter proved to be more of the same with both squads attempting just one shot, respectively. Neither shot reached goal as Gettysburg held a slight 2-1 corner edge. Early in the stanza, Semenenko fired the Garnet's only attempt wide of the cage following a corner feed.

- Hoyer and Magdelana Jordan combined for a breakaway score to put the Garnet on the board. The first-year helped break Jordan into open space with a pass towards the cage. Jordan then used her speed to outrun a pair of defenders, before playing a shot towards the far-corner, which was guided in by Hoyer to make it 1-0. Later in the third quarter, Semenenko had a look at the cage, but rocketed a shot wide. The Garnet flipped momentum in its favor, outshooting their opponent 3-1 in the quarter.

- Semenenko tacked on an insurance tally in the 49th minute. Hoyer set up the breakaway with an exceptional upfield pass to give her team an advantage. Semenenko capitalized on the opportunity, maneuvering past the goalie before elevating a shot towards the top of the cage.
