ITHACA, N.Y. – The Swarthmore College volleyball team concluded its stay at the Ithaca Invitational with a pair of matches on Saturday. The Garnet were dealt a pair of 3-1 setbacks by No. 20 Ithaca College and New York University.
Isabel Adam led Swarthmore with 40 kills on the day, averaging 5.00 per set.
Keira Miles totaled 20 kills while
Alexia Enache added 14 over the two matches.
Maya Sheridan compiled 41 assists and 28 digs while
Melissa Eyer paced the squad with 38 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet had an early 3-1 lead in the opening set when the Bombers scored six of the next seven to go ahead 7-4. Ithaca increased its edge to five (12-7) before Swarthmore came back with a 7-1 run to take a one-point advantage (14-13). Adam recorded three kills with Miles adding a pair. The teams were even at 19 when Ithaca scored back-to-back points for a 21-19 lead. Two aces by Sheridan and a kill apiece from Enache and Miles put the Garnet ahead 23-21. The Bombers rallied to force an extended set but consecutive kills by Adam and Enache eventually gave Swarthmore a 28-26 victory.
- The teams went back and forth early in the second set. The Garnet had a slim 9-8 edge when Ithaca had a 10-3 surge to claim a six-point lead (18-12). Swarthmore fought back to score eight of the next 11 to close to within one (21-20) but the Bombers held on for a 25-22 win.
- In the third set, the Garnet nursed a one-point advantage again at 5-4. Ithaca fired back with 10 unanswered points to take a 14-5 lead. Swarthmore was only able to cut the deficit to five (15-10) before the Bombers closed the frame with a 10-4 stretch to win 25-14.
- The Garnet jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the final set. However, Ithaca responded with five points in a row to tie the score at seven. The teams were deadlocked at 14 when Swarthmore scored five of six to go ahead 19-15. The Bombers came back with a 7-1 run to take a 22-20 edge and they would go on to clinch the match 25-23.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams traded rallies in the opening set until the score was tied at 13. The Garnet then went in front with an 8-2 run to lead 21-15. However, the Violets answered with a 10-2 surge to stun Swarthmore and take the frame 25-23.
- NYU carried the momentum into the second set, getting out to a 5-1 advantage. The Violets led 10-7 when the Garnet scored seven unanswered to take a 14-10 lead.
Aiste Bardauskaite tallied two kills during the run. NYU never came closer than three points the rest of the way as Swarthmore took the stanza, 25-19, to tie the match.
- The Violets scored the opening five points of the third set but the Garnet came back to even the score at nine. The teams were tied at 17 before back-to-back points by NYU. Swarthmore answered with three in a row to take a one-point edge (20-19) but the Violets rallied for six of the next eight to win the set 25-22.
- The teams went back and forth in the fourth set until they were level at 17 apiece. NYU then took over with an 8-1 surge to clinch the match with a 25-18 decision.
