Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Wins at Widener, Late Heroics from Minuesa Sicilia

CHESTER, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's soccer team outlasted Widener University, 1-0, for an impressive road victory on a windy Tuesday night. Javier Minuesa Sicilia provided the late-game heroics with a score in the 86th minute, notching his first collegiate points.

The Garnet outshot the Pride 14-9, with a lopsided 6-1 advantage on corner attempts. The Pride had few quality opportunities on goal, but first-year keeper Colin Crowe stepped up big-time with a crucial save in the 13th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Adrien Marcelli almost snuck the ball past the keeper in the 11th minute. The senior sent in a shot on goal, which was bobbled by the Pride's netminder, before bouncing off the near post and into the arms of the keeper.

- Anzel Zhen kept the ball out of the net with a deflection in the 13th minute, saving a goal after Crowe had stumbled in net. The first-year keeper then made an excellent kick save off the ensuing rebound to deny the Pride of another quality scoring chance.

- The Garnet keeper made another save in the 26th minute. Dante Cholmeley-Jones and Minuesa Sicilia both fired shots on net for the Garnet before the opening half expired, but were unable to break through for the first tally.

- Swarthmore was finally rewarded for its efforts in the 86th minute to steal a road victory. Kim possessed the ball in the corner before playing a pass to Marcelli, who then sent in a strike towards the box. Minuesa Sicilia connected with Marcelli's ball on a header to deflect the attempt past the keeper for the game-winning score. The tally marked the rookie's first collegiate points.

- Crowe registered one final save in the remaining minutes to blank the Pride. The first-year recorded three saves for his second shutout of the season.
