No. 14 Women’s Soccer Suffers First Loss at No. 17 Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ - The No. 14 Swarthmore College women's soccer team dropped a nationally-ranked showdown at No. 17 Rowan University, 2-1, on Wednesday night. The Garnet opened its road schedule after kicking off the season with four-straight home contests.

Neither team took long to open the scoring, notching goals in the third and ninth minutes, respectively. Both teams remained locked in a 1-1 draw until the Profs delivered the game-winner in the 85th minute.

Nicole Jensen scored Swarthmore's lone score in the ninth minute for her first goal of the season. The Garnet outshot their opponent 11-8, but the Profs registered one more shot on goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shortly after surrendering their first goal of the season, the Garnet answered back with an equalizer in the ninth minute. Jensen tallied her first goal following a corner kick. Macie Mangini played the ball to the sophomore from the middle of the box, who then volleyed a shot over the keeper.

- Swarthmore escaped a dangerous situation after a free kick in the ninth minute tested the Garnet defense. Dahlia Bedward ventured towards the top of the box to deflect the kick, while Eloise Franz made a heads up play to block the ensuing rebound.

- Later in the half, the Profs had another golden opportunity off a free kick in the 30th minute. However, Swarthmore's defense stepped up once more and did not allow a shot on goal. Aminah Evans and Sydney Ross both came through with blocks to defuse the scoring attempt.

- Early in the second, Rowan was unable to capitalize on a flurry of shots. Moments later, Celia Kanellakos nearly put the Garnet in front with a strike off the crossbar in the 65th minute.

- Rowan delivered the game-winning tally in the 85th minute. Kanellakos fired off a shot attempt in the final minutes of play, but sailed her attempt high.
