Men's Soccer Shows Off Depth In Season-Opening Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Four different players scored goals while five recorded a point as the Swarthmore College men's soccer team kicked off the 2025 season with a dominant 4-0 victory over visiting Yeshiva University on Friday afternoon.

The Garnet tallied two goals apiece in the first and second halves. Swarthmore had nearly half of its possession come in the attacking end during the contest, outshooting the Maccabees by a 26-7 count.

Dante Cholmeley-Jones and Jackson Haynes both registered their first career goal with Cholmeley-Jones also adding an assist. Adrien Marcelli and Joost Almekinders also found the back of the net for the Garnet. Colin Crowe picked up the win and clean sheet in his first collegiate game, making one save in the Swarthmore cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet opened the scoring in the 11th minute as Cholmeley-Jones scored his first collegiate marker. A service from the midfield deflected off a Yeshiva defender and was going wide of the goal. The Maccabees' keeper came out to the end line to try to prevent a Swarthmore corner kick but mishandled the ball, allowing it to pop out in front of the net where Cholmeley-Jones was waiting to strike and give the Garnet an early edge.

- Swarthmore did not allow a Yeshiva shot attempt until the 24th minute and then countered to take a 2-0 lead in the 26th minute. Len Yamabe took a free kick from just outside the box on the right side. Haynes was able to get his foot on the ball and sneak it just under the bar for his first career tally.

- Marcelli needed just 1:13 of playing time in the second half to up the Garnet advantage to three. He generated a prime opportunity on a rush, drawing the goalkeeper out of the net. Marcelli's first offering was tipped by the keeper but continued towards the cage, bouncing off the left post. The senior followed up his shot and deposited the ball into the vacated goal.

- Swarthmore's final marker came in the 60th minute. Cholmeley-Jones dribbled into the box on the left side and sent a pass right to Almekinders, who hit the right side of the cage for a 4-0 lead. Crowe was challenged on a free kick in the 87th minute but was able to make the stop to preserve the shutout.
