LANCASTER, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team had five players earn All-Centennial honors, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Benjamin Buchman,
Aidan Sullivan, and
Matthew Silvestre were all second team honorees.
Noah Potholm and
Brad Johnston received honorable mention. It is the third straight All-Centennial selection for Sullivan and the second career honor for Silvestre. In addition,
Zach Potthoff was the Garnet's representative on the Centennial All-Sportsmanship Team.
Buchman batted .326 with a .982 OPS. He totaled 45 hits, seven doubles, seven home runs, 32 RBI, 37 runs, 22 walks, and 14 stolen bases. Buchman recorded 13 multi-hit games. He was second on the squad in homers and third in stolen bases.
Sullivan led the Garnet with a .363 batting average and 1.037 OPS. He was also first on the team in runs (57), hits (61), triples (3), walks (36), and stolen bases (23). Sullivan ranked second in doubles (11) and RBI (35) and he was third in homers (5). In the conference stats, Sullivan finished third in walks and stolen bases, fourth in runs, eighth in hits, and tied for ninth in triples. The junior registered a hit in 32 of his 42 games.
Silvestre hit .358 with a .981 OPS. He produced 49 hits, five doubles, five home runs, 34 RBI, 35 runs, 28 walks, and 10 stolen bases. The senior placed second on the team in hitting and walks and he was third in RBI and homers. Silvestre tied for ninth in the conference in walks.
Potholm tied for the Centennial lead with 64.1 innings pitched and he was tied for second with seven wins. The junior finished with a 5.32 ERA and struck out 43 batters. He was selected the Centennial Pitcher of the Week one time.
Johnston batted .280 and finished second on the squad with a 1.014 OPS. He recorded 23 hits, one double, nine home runs, 30 RBI, 22 runs, seven walks, and three stolen bases. Johnston led Swarthmore and tied for ninth in the conference in home runs. He was chosen the Centennial Player of the Week one time.
The Garnet ended the year with a 24-18 record and earned the second seed in the Centennial Tournament.
