Women’s Tennis Sweeps Washington, Finish Unbeaten in Centennial

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 20 Swarthmore College women's tennis team completed an undefeated Centennial Conference schedule with a 7-0 victory over Washington College on Saturday. The Garnet finished 8-0 in conference play and extended their winning streak to seven matches.

Before the match, the program honored seniors Nathalie Williams, Ruthie Njagi, Lara Geib, and Marisa Geib as part of Senior Day festivities. Williams marked the occasion with a pair of wins—teaming with Njagi for a victory at No. 2 doubles and earning a win at No. 1 singles.

HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES

- Kathleen Shiffer/ Erin Li dominated at No. 1 doubles with a commanding 6-0 victory. The duo finished the season undefeated in Centennial play, winning all three of their matches at the top doubles spot.

- The senior tandem of Williams/ Njagi maintained their success, earning their fourth-straight conference win with a quick 6-0 result at No. 2 doubles.

- Riya Rao/ Ella Strickler completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3. The pair has won 12-straight matches after dropping their first two of the season. The Garnet went through their entire conference schedule without losing a single doubles match.
 


SINGLES
- Williams opened singles play with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1. The senior has won 11-straight singles matches, capping off a perfect record in conference play.

- At No. 2 singles, Li continued her impressive rookie season with a 6-3, 6-1 win to clinch a Swarthmore victory. The first-year went undefeated in both singles and doubles during conference play to start her collegiate career.

- Shiffer picked up her second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, finishing 5-0 in Centennial competition.

- Ella Strickler cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, marking her fifth straight victory. Lisa Messier and Marisa Geib completed the sweep with matching 8-1 decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Garnet (13-4, 8-0) close their regular season schedule at the University of Mary Washington tomorrow morning.
