Softball Splits against No. 13 Gettysburg on Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team earned a doubleheader split against No. 13 Gettysburg College in a thrilling Sunday showdown that lived up to its billing. Both teams entered the day riding a combined 29-game winning streak, with the Garnet having won 15 straight. The matchup featured the top two teams in the Centennial Conference, each boasting undefeated conference records.

Swarthmore took the opener with a commanding 6-1 win, as Lilly Goldberg outdueled Gettysburg's ace in a highly anticipated battle between two of the conference's premier pitchers. Goldberg was dominant, tossing seven innings of three-hit ball and allowing just one unearned run. The first-year standout struck out 11 batters for the second consecutive game, earning her 11th win of the season.

Emily Bertrand led the way offensively in the opener, collecting two hits and driving in three runs. She finished the day with four hits and five RBI. Olivia McClammy provided an intimidating presence in the heart of the lineup, reaching base six times on four hits and three walks. The senior toppled another program records, becoming the all-time doubles leader with her 39th and 40th doubles in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Sarah Schab, who missed the entire season with an injury, started in the circle in celebration of Senior Appreciation Day. Schab threw the opening pitch, before handing the ball off to Goldberg, who struck out the side swinging in a dominant opening frame.

- Swarthmore opened the scoring in the bottom of the first after McClammy drew a two-out walk to spark a rally. Avery McClure was hit by a pitch to keep the inning alive, and Bertrand followed with a bloop single to left, driving in McClammy.

- Following an unearned run allowed in the top of the third, the Garnet responded with more two-out production in the bottom half. Bertrand delivered again, lacing a two-run single through the left side. Kate Borza followed with an RBI single down the left field line, and Lia Fong capped the rally with a double to the warning track, scoring Borza from first and extending the lead to 5–1.

- Goldberg continued to deal, striking out two in a scoreless fourth and keeping the Bullets off the board through the fifth and sixth innings to maintain Swarthmore's lead.

- The Garnet added an insurance run in the sixth on McClammy's RBI single. Goldberg then struck out the side in the seventh, sealing the victory and punctuating a dominant performance in the circle.
