GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team took both games of a Centennial Conference doubleheader at No. 16 Gettysburg College on Sunday, upping its win streak to five games and remaining in a tie for first place atop the conference standings. The Garnet won the opener, 5-3, before blanking the Bullets in the nightcap, 8-0.
Swarthmore used a two-run ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie in game one. In game two, the Garnet banged out 10 hits and held Gettysburg to just three as
Aidan Tinker,
Gabe Elliott, and
Jeremy Jensen combined for the shutout.
Aidan Sullivan went 4-for-8 over the two games with a home run, three RBI, two runs, two walks, and a stolen base.
Leor Kedar also tallied four hits, two of them doubles. The rookie scored twice.
Benjamin Buchman and
Max Roffwarg totaled three hits apiece. Roffwarg hit three doubles and knocked in four runs while Buchman produced two doubles and scored twice.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bullets opened the scoring in the second with a two-out RBI double. Roffwarg evened it up in the third with a two-out double of his own to plate
Easton Tolson. However, Gettysburg regained the edge in the bottom of the inning with a run-scoring single.
- In the fourth, Buchman led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by
Zac Kahn. Buchman later scored on a groundout by
Max Beadling and the teams were tied at two.
- Swarthmore took its first lead in the fifth.
Wilson Henze began the frame with an infield single. The sophomore went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a groundout. With two outs, Sullivan sent a single through the right side to score Henze and give the Garnet a 3-2 advantage.
- The Garnet had a chance to add to their lead in the sixth but stranded a runner at third. The Bullets made them pay in the bottom of the frame, scoring the tying run on a two-out single to bring it to a 3-3 deadlock.
- Swarthmore had another opportunity in the seventh with runners at second and third but the Garnet came up empty again. After Gettysburg got a runner to third with just one out in the bottom of the seventh,
David Herrin came in and shut the door as the rookie got a pop-up and a strike out to keep the game even. The Bullets produced the same scenario in the eighth but Herrin again got out of the jam.
- In the ninth, Kedar doubled down the line with one away. After Kedar advanced to third on a groundout, Gettysburg intentionally walked Sullivan and he stole second to put two runners in scoring position. The Bullets issued a free pass to Buchman to load the bases and face Kahn. Kahn put the ball in play and Gettysburg committed an error, allowing Kedar and Sullivan to score and give Swarthmore a 5-3 lead.
- The Bullets put two aboard with two outs in the bottom of the ninth but
Steven Jungers recorded a strike out to lock down his fourth save. Herrin was credited with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sullivan gave the Garnet an early 1-0 lead with a homer in the first inning. It was his fourth long ball of the season.
Brad Johnston launched a solo shot of his own in the second, doubling the Swarthmore advantage.
- The Garnet doubled their lead again with two runs in the sixth, with all of the action coming with two outs. Buchman walked and stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Kahn drew a walk then went to second on another wild pitch to put two runners in scoring position. A third wild pitch allowed Buchman to score and Kahn would later come home on an error to make it 4-0 in favor of Swarthmore.
- After allowing two baserunners in each of the first two frames, Tinker settled in on the mound and let just one hitter aboard from the third through fifth innings. After retiring nine in a row, Tinker gave up a double in the sixth but stranded the runner. He finished with 6.2 innings of shutout ball for his second win of the year.
- The Garnet offense tacked on two more runs in the seventh when Roffwarg doubled in a pair to increase the margin to six. Swarthmore's final two runs came across in the ninth on another Roffwarg double and an RBI single by Sullivan, both with two away.
