SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College baseball team scored in seven of its eight offensive innings and picked up its sixth consecutive victory with a 13-6 triumph against Washington College in a Centennial Conference contest on Monday.
After coming up empty in the opening frame, the Garnet scored in seven straight innings, scoring multiple runs in five of the stanzas. Swarthmore swept the season series against the Shoremen for the first time since 2022.
Matthew Silvestre went 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBI, two runs, and a stolen base.
Leor Kedar was 3-for-6 at the plate. He stole three bases and scored twice.
Aidan Sullivan finished 2-for-3 with three walks, two RBI, and a pair of runs.
Zac Kahn drove in three runs on the day.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Silvestre began the scoring with a two-run homer in the second. It was his third long ball of the year. Washington tied the score in the top of the third, pushing across two unearned runs on a pair of wild pitches.
- The Garnet regained the advantage in the bottom of the third on Kahn's two-out, two-run single with the bases loaded. The Shoremen got one back in the fourth on a two-out RBI single to cut the deficit in half (4-3).
- Swarthmore responded with another crooked number in its half of the fourth, scoring three times for a 7-3 lead. Sullivan singled in a pair of runs and later scored on an error. An RBI double in the fifth brought Washington within three. Silvestre came home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to restore a four-run cushion for the Garnet (8-4).
- Kahn came home on a groundout in the sixth to increase the margin to five. The Shoremen's final runs of the day came on a rare two-run sacrifice fly to deep center in the seventh, making the score 9-6. Swarthmore answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kedar raced home on a wild pitch and Kahn drew a bases-loaded walk.
- The Garnet wrapped up the scoring in the eighth as
Nathaniel Kittredge came in on a wild pitch and
Benjamin Buchman recorded a sac fly.
