SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team extended its winning streak to double digits with a Centennial Conference victory over Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday.
Olivia McClammy delivered a walk-off hit in the opener, securing a 3-2 win, while
Lane Barron led the Garnet to a 5-2 victory in the finale.
After the Diplomats took the lead in the seventh inning, McClammy stepped up to the plate in the bottom half and delivered a game-winning single, tying the program record for career hits with 166. She is now tied with Garnet Hall of Famer Kathryn Riley for the record.
Lilly Goldberg was outstanding in the opener, tossing seven innings with two earned runs, three hits, and a career-high 14 strikeouts. She did not allow a baserunner until the fifth inning, striking out nine of the first 12 batters she faced. Goldberg's only blunder was allowing a go-ahead, two-out homer in the seventh inning. She had gone five-consecutive outings and 29.1 straight innings without allowing an earned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Goldberg faced the minimum through the first two innings with four punch outs. Swarthmore got the lead runner on base in the bottom of the second with an Avery McClure single, but left its cleanup hitter stranded at third base.Â
- The first-year ace continued to roll through the Diplomats lineup as they had no answer for her rising fastball. Goldberg remained perfect through the opening four frames, while striking out nine of her first 12 batters. She struck out the side in the fourth inning.
- Iris Barone's speed created a run in the third without Swarthmore recording a hit. The speedster worked a two-out walk and then stole second before coming home to score from second on a strikeout passed ball. Barone came home to score on the catcher's throw to first base.
- The Diplomats broke up Goldberg's perfect game with a bloop single to leadoff the fifth. However, the first-year bounced back to strike out the next two batters looking, while generating a weak inning-ending grounder to first base.Â
- For the second time, Goldberg struck out the side in the sixth to increase her total to 14 punchouts. Down to their final out and strike, the Diplomats launched a go-ahead, two-run homer to right field to take the lead in the seventh inning.Â
- Swarthmore loaded the bases with no outs to open the seventh. Catherine Heflin opened the frame with a single up the middle, while Reagen Valenzuela bunted for a single and Barone worked a walk. The Garnet tied the game on a Jordan Jackson sacrifice fly and then walked it off on a McClammy single, which tied the program's career all-time hits record.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Barone created more issues for the Diplomats on the base paths in the first inning. After reaching on a walk, the junior stole another base and then scored from second on a McClure infield single that deflected off the pitcher.Â
- Rae Barron crushed a two-out, two-strike pitch to left field to tack on another run in the second. Lia Fong then singled to shortstop to prolong the inning, while Barone smacked a triple to dead center to take a three-run lead, 3-0.Â
- Franklin & Marshall took advantage of a two-out, strikeout wild pitch to extend the third inning. The Diplomats rallied for two runs to pull within a score, but had a runner caught in a run down to end the threat.Â
- Swarthmore answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. McClure doubled to start the rally, and later came home to score on a two-out single from Kate Borza. Heflin then doubled home another run with a rocket to the left-center gap, making it 5-2.Â
- Lane Barron tossed 1-2-3 frames in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to maintain Swarthmore's lead. The Diplomats had a runner reach on an error in the seventh, but were unable to get anything going against the junior, who cruised to her seventh win of the season.Â
