Softball Wins 13th Straight, McClammy Breaks Program Hits Record

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College softball team swept McDaniel College, earning its 12th and 13th straight victories. The Garnet remain unbeaten in the conference and have now swept six consecutive opponents.

In the opener, Swarthmore powered to a 10-0 victory in five innings against the Green Terror. Olivia McClammy helped seal the win with a historic three-run blast, breaking the program record for career hits. Her 167th career hit surpassed Garnet Hall of Famer Kathryn Riley's previous record set in 2010.

First-year pitcher Lilly Goldberg carried a perfect game into the fifth inning for the second consecutive game before her bid was broken up by a leadoff single. Goldberg finished with five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, one walk, and striking out eight to earn her ninth victory.

The Garnet completed the sweep with a 5-0 win in the finale. Lane Barron held a one-run lead for most of the game before the offense erupted for four runs in the final two innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- After Goldberg retired the side in the first, the Garnet offense rewarded their pitcher with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Iris Barone scored after advancing two bases on a Regan Valenzuela sacrifice bunt, then crossed the plate on a throwing error by the second baseman. Emily Bertrand added another run with an RBI single, and the Garnet tacked on one more after an errant throw back to the pitcher in between pitches.

- Following back-to-back 1-2-3 innings, the Garnet broke the game open with seven runs in the third. Jordan Jackson singled home the first run, followed by Grace Taylor, who drove in another with a double. Lia Fong then doubled in two more runs before McClammy cleared the bases with a three-run home run, extending the Garnet's lead to 10-0. McClammy's blast marked her 14th career home run and a record-breaking 167th career hit.

- Goldberg retired the first 12 batters for the second consecutive outing. The Green Terror ended the first-year's no-hit bid in the fifth with a leadoff single, but Goldberg quickly regained control, striking out the side to end the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Barron stranded two runners in scoring position to start the game. Barone then led off the bottom of the inning with a triple to left field and later scored the first run on a passed ball.

- Taylor kept the second inning alive with a two-out walk, and Fong followed with a double to left, putting two runners in scoring position. However, McDaniel managed to escape the jam without allowing a run.

- Barron retired the side in order in the fourth inning. Bertrand then led off the bottom of the frame with a double to right-center, but was left stranded in scoring position to end the inning.

- After committing an error to begin the fifth, Barron redeemed herself with a double play on a line drive up the middle. The junior reacted quickly, snagging the liner and throwing a strike to first base. She then induced a flyout for her fifth-straight scoreless inning.

- Swarthmore added a run in the fifth on a bloop double down the right-field line. McClammy worked a two-out walk to help manufacture the run, hustling from first to score on the double. Barron then worked around a leadoff double in the sixth, stranding McDaniel's runner at second to keep the shutout intact.

- The Garnet added three more insurance runs in the sixth inning. Fong and Barone drove in the first two with RBI singles, and Jackson capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring home the final run of the game.
