No. 14 Men’s Lacrosse Remains Undefeated in Victory Over Kenyon

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The No. 14 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team defended its undefeated record with a 19-9 victory over Kenyon College for the team's sixth-straight win on Saturday afternoon. The Owls were receiving votes in the most recent USILA national rankings. 

Drew Tyson was remarkable between the pipes with a career-high 18 saves. The junior had 11 saves with one goal allowed in the opening half. He was also solid down the stretch with five saves in a pivotal fourth quarter to lead the Garnet to an 8-2 advantage. 

Michael Hardiman scored five goals to lead the Garnet attack. Owen Hoffman also collected a hat trick with three goals, while Clay Almgren put together another well-rounded stat sheet with two goals and three assists. Swarthmore spread out the scoring once again with nine different players tallying scores.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore took control of the game early with three-straight goals to open the game. Rex Mabbs opened the floodgates with a score at the 7:23 mark, while Hoffman and Almgren added unassisted tallies within the next couple of minutes. Kenyon scored one goal in the stanza, but Tyson was sensational in net with seven saves in the opening 15-minutes. The Garnet exited the stanza with a 3-1 lead. 

- The Garnet defense locked down the Owls' attack as Swarthmore's offense went to work with five-unanswered goals in the quarter. Ryder Maston totaled a pair of scores, while Hardiman, Ronan Butler and Emmett Harris helped run up Swarthmore's advantage, 8-1. Tyson added four more saves in a scoreless quarter. 

- Swarthmore notched a couple more scores to add to its lead. Nolan Ohrman opened the half with a goal, while Hardiman added the team's seventh-unanswered score, seconds later. Kenyon finally put an end to their 25-minute scoring drought to create positive momentum. The Owls scored their first of five-straight goals at the 9:40 mark as they nudged closer within four goals. Hoffman got Swarthmore back on track with a much-needed score at the 1:02 mark, but the Owls countered with one final score before the third intermission. Kenyon outscored the Garnet 6-3 in the stanza to shrink their deficit to four goals, 11-7.

- Hardiman created some breathing room with a behind-the-back score to open the fourth quarter. The Garnet rode off their newfound momentum with three more goals to bring their lead to eight. Danny Lowe, Hardiman and Harris all scored goals within the same minute, before the Owls countered with a score. Later in the quarter, Almgren, Lowe, Hoffman and Hardiman piled on to build the Garnet a double-digit advantage, 19-9.
