SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team used a 13-0 run to pull away from Neumann University and defeat the Knights, 18-4, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.
The Garnet edged Neumann 5-3 in the opening quarter before taking over the game and outscoring the Knights, 13-1, the rest of the way.
Isabela Bloomquist led the Swarthmore offense with seven points on four goals and three assists.
Abigail Love totaled three goals and two assists for five points while
Claire Long and
Sophie Finkelstein also recorded a hat trick with three goals each.
Brooke Carrier made a career-high eight saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights scored first just 50 seconds into the contest. Love put Swarthmore on the board just over a minute later followed by back-to-back tallies by Bloomquist and the Garnet led 3-1. After a Neumann goal, Finkelstein and Long found the back of the net to put Swarthmore up three (5-2). The Knights added a late goal to trail by two after one quarter of play.
- The Garnet upped their game in the second quarter, outscoring Neumann 5-0 to take a commanding 10-3 advantage into halftime. Love scored twice with Annabel
Stifler, Bloomquist, and Finkelstein recording one goal apiece.
- Swarthmore continued its onslaught with a 4-0 third quarter. The Garnet limited the Knights to just three shots in the stanza. Swarthmore showed off its depth in the frame with four different goal-scorers, including
Kela Watts,
Zoe Crawford,
Elizabeth Zack, and Finkelstein.
- The home team produced four more unanswered goals in the fourth. Long led the way with two markers with Bloomquist and
Isabella Fermo each beating the goalkeeper once. Neumann ended its scoring drought with a tally in the final minute of play.
