Women’s Lacrosse Earns Massive Conference Win Over WAC

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team defeated Washington College, 12-11, on Saturday afternoon, marking their first win over the Shorewomen in 14 years. The Garnet secured their first victory against the pesky Shorewomen since 2011.
 
Swarthmore took the lead for the first time with a go-ahead goal from Aubree Daugherty with 9:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Garnet outscored the Shorewomen 3-1 in the final stanza to maintain their one-point advantage. Washington College threatened in the closing seconds after Swarthmore committed consecutive green cards, but Mia Holland forced a crucial turnover to seal the victory.'
 
Claire Long led Swarthmore with four goals, while Isabela Bloomquist and Abigail Love each scored twice. Seven different players contributed to the Swarthmore's offense in a well-rounded team effort.
 
Gillian Will and Holland each caused four turnovers, anchoring a strong defensive performance. Brooke Carrier was outstanding in goal, recording a career-high 10 saves.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Washington scored two quick goals in the first three minutes to take an early lead. The Garnet responded with back-to-back goals from Zoe Crawford and Long to tie the game. However, the Shorewomen added one more goal before the first quarter ended, taking a one-goal advantage into the break.
 
- Long tied the game again with her second goal of the day, but the Shorewomen went on a three-goal run for their biggest rally of the afternoon. Bloomquist and Long responded with consecutive goals to trim the deficit to one. Washington added another goal before halftime, extending their lead to 7-5.
 
- The Garnet came out strong in the third quarter, opening the half with two quick goals. Bloomquist scored first at 12:09, followed by Long's fourth goal shortly after. The Shorewomen regained momentum with three unanswered goals, but Swarthmore countered with goals from Elizabeth Zack and Love to close the quarter, trailing 10-9.
 
- With the game tightly contested, Swarthmore took control in the fourth, scoring three straight goals to start the final period. Carly Rodrigues-Reilly netted the equalizer at 10:09, and Aubree Daugherty gave the Garnet their first lead at 9:04. Love then extended the lead to two just moments later for the team's fifth-unanswered tally. Swarthmore's defense held firm, even as Washington pulled within one goal with 17 seconds remaining. The Shorewomen threatened in the final seconds after the Garnet were penalized twice, but Holland forced a game-sealing turnover, denying Washington's last offensive attempt.
