No. 13 Men’s Lacrosse Drops Nationally-Ranked Showdown at Dickinson

CARLISLE, Pa. - The No. 13 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 18 Dickinson College in a nationally-ranked matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Owen Hoffman led the Garnet offense with three goals, while Michael Hardiman contributed five points, scoring two goals and providing three assists. Ryder Maston added two goals, and Nolan Ohrman and Rex Mabbs each contributed one tally to the team's total.

Both teams were statistically neck and neck on the stat sheet. Dickinson held a slim 12-11 faceoff advantage, while the Garnet had a 22-20 lead in shots on goal. The Red Devils also forced the Garnet into four more turnovers. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dickinson struck early, adding two goals in a low-scoring first quarter. The Red Devils scored at the 13:11 and 12:39 marks, before Hardiman netted his first of two goals with 9:45 remaining. Both teams were held scoreless for the final nine minutes. Drew Tyson made five saves in the quarter, accounting for half of his total saves on the afternoon.

- The Red Devils held a 2-1 scoring advantage in the second quarter. Dickinson netted the first two goals of the period, while Hardiman responded with Swarthmore's lone goal with 16 seconds remaining. The senior accounted for both of the team's goals in the first half, with his scores coming 24 minutes apart.

- Both teams ramped up their offensive intensity in the third quarter, combining for seven goals. After Dickinson extended its lead to three, Maston responded with a goal for the Garnet. Hoffman and Mabbs then answered a Red Devils' goal with back-to-back tallies, bringing Swarthmore within one. The teams traded goals to close the quarter, with Hoffman netting a man-up goal to leave the Garnet trailing by one heading into the final period, 7-6.

- Dickinson extended its lead to three with two quick goals to open the fourth quarter. Hoffman, Ohrman, and Maston each answered with goals for the Garnet, as they continued to exchange blows with the Red Devils. Swarthmore was unable to close the gap to fewer than two goals, as Dickinson held onto its lead the entire way.
