SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team pulled away with a 13-0 run for a bounce-back win over Kalamazoo College, 19-6, at Clothier Field Stadium on Tuesday night.
The two sides played a tight game through the opening 10 minutes with the Garnet holding a slim 3-2 lead. Swarthmore then put the Hornets in its rear-view mirror with 13 unanswered goals that gave the Garnet a commanding 16-2 advantage in the third quarter. Kalamazoo outscored Swarthmore, 4-3, the rest of the way but did not have enough time to mount a comeback.
Aubree Daugherty,
Claire Long, and
Annabel Stifler all tallied four points to lead the Garnet offense. Long scored a game-high four goals with Daugherty and Stifler each recording a hat trick.
Elizabeth Zack totaled three points on one goal and two assists while
Isabela Bloomquist,
Zoe Crawford, and
Kela Watts hit the back of the net two times apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hornets opened the scoring at the 9:55 mark of the opening quarter. Swarthmore needed nearly seven minutes to get on the board but finally did so with three straight markers. Zack, Stifler, and Bloomquist scored within a span of 2:20 to put the Garnet in front 3-1.
- After Kalamazoo closed to within one at 5:16, Swarthmore took over the game with 13 consecutive goals. The Garnet kept the Hornets off the board for a total of 32:14 of game time. Daugherty and Long led the way during the stretch with three goals each while Crawford, Watts, and Stifler all scored twice. Swarthmore had a 16-2 advantage with 4:28 to go in the third quarter at the end of the run.
- Kalamazoo ended its scoring drought with 3:02 to go in the third. Both teams beat the opposing goalkeeper three times in the fourth quarter.
