McClammy Totals Six RBI To Become Program's All-Time Leader As Softball Sweeps Immaculata

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Swarthmore College softball team earned a doubleheader sweep versus visiting Immaculata University on Saturday. The Garnet shut out the Mighty Macs, 7-0, in the opener before winning a slugfest in the nightcap, 10-6.

Olivia McClammy became the program's all-time leader in RBI with her run-scoring double in the third inning of game one. The senior went on to total six RBI on the day to bring her career total to 111, surpassing the previous mark of 105 set by Garnet Athletics Hall of Famer Michelle Walsh in 1998. It is the second Swarthmore record that McClammy has broken this season, as she also became the all-time home run leader earlier this year.

McClammy led the Garnet at the plate in the twin bill, going 4-for-8 with two doubles, six RBI, and three runs. Iris Barone was 3-for-7 with a walk, one RBI, four runs, and four stolen bases. Lia Fong and Avery McClure tallied two hits and two RBI each. Jordan Jackson reached base four times with a triple and three walks while driving in three and scoring three times.

Lilly Goldberg, Fong, and Lucia Sanchez combined for the shutout in the opener, allowing just two hits. The trio struck out nine. Lane Barron recorded the victory in game two, conceding two unearned runs while giving up just four hits and striking out six.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore began the scoring in the first inning with McClure knocking in Barone with a single to left. The Garnet put up a crooked number in the third with four runs. Barone led off with a single then stole second. Jackson walked before executing a double steal with Barone to put runners on second and third. A McClure sacrifice fly plated Barone then McClammy recorded her historic hit to score Jackson and put Swarthmore up three. McClammy later came home on a Kate Borza single and Ava Babcock brought home Borza with a base hit to make it 5-0.

- The Garnet tacked on two more runs in the fourth. McClammy singled in Barone and Borza drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run.

- After allowing a hit to begin the game then stranding runners on the corners in the first, Goldberg retired the last 10 batters she faced. Fong relieved Goldberg and hurled two scoreless innings before Sanchez pitched a perfect seventh to secure the shutout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mighty Macs scored their first run of the afternoon in the opening inning, plating an unearned run on an RBI single. Immaculata went up 2-0 in the second with another unearned run, this time scoring on an error.

- After being shutout for four innings, the Swarthmore offense awoke for six runs in the fifth. Rae Barron reached on an error to begin the frame then Emilee Espinoza and Babcock drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Barone worked a walk to force in a run then Jackson smacked a thrilling bases-clearing triple to left center to put the Garnet in front 4-2. McClammy scored Jackson with a single before coming home on Fong's double to conclude the scoring. Swarthmore was ahead 6-2 after the barrage.

- The Mighty Macs battled back with a four-run sixth to even the score. Immaculata registered five hits and a walk in the inning, including a solo home run. The Mighty Macs had a chance for more with the bases loaded and just one out but Lane Barron recorded a strikeout then induced a groundout to end the frame.

- The Garnet took over for good in the bottom of the sixth. Grace Taylor and Jackson both walked then McClure singled to load the bases. McClammy then cleared the bags with a three-run double to right to give Swarthmore a 9-6 advantage. Fong later brought home McClammy with a double for the final run of the contest.
