Softball Drops Two To Wrap Up Opening Weekend

SALISBURY, Md. – The Swarthmore College softball team suffered a pair of one-run losses on Sunday to conclude its season-opening weekend. The Garnet fell to No. 16 University of Rochester, 5-4, and No. 13 Salisbury University, 3-2, after defeating both squads on Saturday.

Olivia McClammy blasted a pair of home runs to wrap up a stellar start to the campaign. The senior increased her career total to 12 after breaking the program record on Saturday. McClammy finished 2-for-6 with four RBI over Sunday's contests.

Lia Fong went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Jordan Jackson recorded three hits in five at-bats and scored a run. Iris Barone tallied two hits, a double, and a run.

ROCHESTER 5, SWARTHMORE 4
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Yellowjackets got out to a 3-0 lead with one run in the second and two in the third, all on a pair of errors. After being held without a hit through 3.1 innings, the Garnet broke through in the fourth on McClammy's first long ball of the day to make it 3-1.

-  In the sixth, Barone and Jackson reached on back-to-back singles with one out. McClammy came up and bashed her second homer of the contest, this one a three-run shot to give Swarthmore a 4-3 advantage. It was her second career two-homer game, the first since her rookie season in 2022.

- However, Rochester put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Yellowjackets led off with a bunt single followed by a hit by pitch. A double brought in the tying run and put runners on second and third. An error loaded the bases before Rochester won the game with a walk-off single.

- Swarthmore regained the edge in the fourth. Catherine Heflin reached on an error before Fong brought her in with a double to left center and the Garnet had a 2-1 lead.

- However, the Sea Gulls hit right back in the bottom of the inning. Salisbury used two walks and a single to load the bases before scoring the tying run on a fielder's choice. The Sea Gulls then sent an RBI single into right field and went in front 3-2.
