MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 26 Swarthmore College women's tennis team pitched a 7-0 shutout against No. 27 Grinnell College in the Garnet's Spring Break finale on Thursday night.
The Garnet dominated the contest, winning all nine matches.
Nathalie Williams,
Lola Diaz,
Kathleen Shiffer,
Erin Li, and
Ella Strickler all picked up a pair of victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shiffer and Li started things off for Swarthmore with a 6-2 victory at second doubles. They trailed 2-1 before winning five straight games to take the match. Similarly,
Riya Rao and Strickler fell behind 3-2 then reeled off four in a row for a 6-3 win at the third spot. Williams and Diaz battled through a tough bout and came out on top in a tiebreak at first doubles.
- Strickler continued her recent hot streak with a 6-0, 6-0 rout at fifth singles. The sophomore has won four consecutive singles matches and has not conceded a game in three straight sets. Shiffer gave the Garnet a 3-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-1 success at the fourth position.

Lisa Messier rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at sixth singles to clinch the match for Swarthmore. Diaz made quick work of her opponent at the second flight with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
- Li rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take her opening set at second singles, 6-4. She then repeated the feat in the second stanza, also winning 6-4. Williams completed the sweep with a close 7-5, 7-5 win at first singles.

The Garnet (4-3) return home and begin Centennial Conference play on March 29 versus Franklin and Marshall College.
