LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Swarthmore College baseball team lost a late lead and fell 9-4 to Arcadia University at the Spartan Southern Classic on Sunday night.
 
The Garnet were ahead 4-2 through six innings of play but the Knights rallied for seven combined runs in the seventh and eighth frames to come back and grab the victory.
 
The Swarthmore offense struggled to the tune of five hits and just one earned run. Aidan Sullivan tallied two hits and one RBI at the plate. The Garnet defense also gifted Arcadia four unearned runs with six errors on the evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the second. Sullivan doubled in a run in the third to draw Swarthmore even at one apiece. Arcadia regained the lead in the fifth, scoring on an error to go up 2-1.
 
- The Garnet put up a crooked number in the sixth, pushing across three runs to take a 4-2 edge. Benjamin Buchman came home on a groundout, Nathaniel Kittredge scored on an error, and Wilson Henze touched the plate on another miscue.
 
- However, the Knights quickly went back in front with a three-run seventh. Arcadia recorded an RBI single and a two-run base hit to jump ahead 5-4. Swarthmore loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but failed to score.
 
- The Knights tacked on four insurance runs in the eighth. They scored on a wild pitch before blasting a three-run homer.
