Women’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Alvernia, Wins Third-Straight

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's lacrosse team took it to Alvernia University with an 18-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet earned their second shutout in back-to-back seasons after blanking Eastern University last year. 

Annabel Stifler led the team with five points on four goals and an assist. The junior recorded a new collegiate best in both goals and points. Claire Long and Kela Watts each contributed three points with a pair of goals, respectively. 

The Garnet piled on with nine goals in the opening stanza and never took their foot of the gas. Swarthmore outshot their opponent 28-5 and went 18-3 on draw controls. 



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abigail Love set the tone with a goal in the opening minute of action. Isabela Bloomquist and Elizabeth Zack added on with scores to give the Garnet a three-goal advantage before the 10-minute mark. Stifler then took over for Swarthmore and was involved in the next five scores. The junior scored four-straight goals, before assisting a Long score to put Swarthmore ahead by eight. Before the first intermission, Zack added on her second goal of the quarter to give her squad a commanding 9-0 lead. 

- Swarthmore added on five goals in the second quarter. Zoe Crawford tallied a score in the opening minute to give the Garnet a double-digit lead. Long then connected on her second score, while Watts notched back-to-back goals to increase the team's lead. Paige Samuelson collected the team's 14th goal with 16-seconds remaining in the opening half. 

- The Garnet maintained its domination in the third quarter. Carly Rodrigues-Reilly scored in the opening minute to start the second half. Isabella Fermo and Aubree Daugherty then found the back of the net to give their squad a 17-0 lead. 

- Swarthmore maintained possession in the fourth quarter and kept the ball away from their opponent as the clock ran out in regulation. Avery Nardi tallied her first collegiate score with 6:30 remaining to notch the lone goal of the fourth quarter.
