Women’s Basketball Falls Short at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's basketball team fell to Haverford College, 51-37, in a crucial conference match-up on Wednesday night.

Anna Hansson posted a double-double with a season-high 17 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks to pace the Garnet. The junior was the lone Swarthmore player in double figures.

Swarthmore trailed by three points heading into the final quarter until its offense stalled out in the final 10-minutes. The Garnet were outscored 15-4 in the stanza with just one field goal made.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet took an early lead after a Hansson three and a Norah Wingfield tip-in gave Swarthmore a 5-3 advantage. The Fords went on to win the quarter 16-13 after closing the final four minutes on a 7-3 run.

- Hansson opened the second quarter with back-to-back layups to put the Garnet ahead, 17-16. The Fords then countered with a 6-0 stretch, which was answered by consecutive buckets from Carly Murphy and Hansson. Haverford maintained their three-point advantage heading into halftime, 25-22.

- Midway through the third, Haverford expanded its lead to seven points. Swarthmore then used a 7-1 swing to pull within a point at the 1:06 mark. Raven Richardson and Hansson closed the stretch with back-to-back layups. However, Haverford ended the quarter with a pair of free throws to hold onto its three-point lead, 36-33.

- The Garnet were unable to keep pace with the Fords in the fourth quarter. Haverford opened the final stanza with seven-unanswered points to take a double-digit lead, 43-33. Swarthmore scored only four points in the quarter with just one field goal made.
