Baseball Wears Down Stockton For Second Straight Win

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Swarthmore College baseball team scored seven runs over the middle innings to defeat Stockton University, 11-3 in eight innings, in a non-conference matchup on Friday. The contest ended early due to darkness.

After taking an early 2-0 lead, the Garnet fell behind in the third when the Ospreys scored three runs. Swarthmore then outscored Stockton 9-0 the rest of the way.

Matthew Silvestre went 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Max Roffwarg was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs. Wilson Henze recorded two hits in four at-bats, recording one RBI, one run, and one walk. Nathaniel Kittredge tallied two hits, two RBI, and two runs. Jeremy Jensen pitched 3.2 scoreless innings in relief to earn the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning. Roffwarg, Zac Kahn, and Easton Tolson all walked to load the bases. Silvestre followed with a single to left to score Roffwarg before Kahn came home on a RBI fielder's choice by Aidan Sullivan. The Ospreys threatened in their half of the inning by loading the bases with one out but Liam Alpern registered back-to-back strikeouts to get out of the jam.

- Stockton did get on the board with three runs in the third for its only lead of the day. The first three hitters reached before a hit by pitch pushed across the first run. One run came home on a wild pitch and the go-ahead run scored on a walk.

- Swarthmore regained the upper hand with a three-run fourth. Silvestre drove in Henze with a single and later stole home on a double steal. Sullivan scampered home on a groundout to make it 5-3.

- Roffwarg scored on a bunt single by Henze in the fifth to put the Garnet up three. Swarthmore had two runs come across in the sixth. Kittredge smacked a two-run single to left, scoring both Sullivan and Silvestre for a 9-3 advantage. The Garnet's final two runs scored in the eighth on a Roffwarg sacrifice fly and a wild pitch. Meanwhile, Jensen held the Ospreys without a run over 3.2 innings, allowing just three hits while the Swarthmore offense went to work.
