Box Score MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 9 Swarthmore College men's tennis team suffered a 4-1 loss to No. 7 Emory University in its final match at the ITA Indoor National Championship on Sunday, finishing the tournament in sixth place.
Michael Melnikov had the lone win for the Garnet, ending the weekend with a perfect 3-0 singles mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles quickly won doubles with victories at the first and second spots. Emory defeated
Kai Chen and
Max Pogorelov, 6-0, at second doubles before topping
Utham Koduri and Melnikov, 6-2, at the top position.
- The Swarthmore deficit became 2-0 after
Dylan Hayes Gilbert dropped his match at sixth singles 2-6, 1-6. Melnikov got the Garnet within one with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at the first flight.

Rishi Verma lost a close opening set at third singles, 4-6, before running out of gas in the second frame and falling 1-6. The Eagles clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 win against
Max Lindstrom at second singles.
UP NEXT
Swarthmore (2-2) hosts No. 5 Denison University on Saturday. The Big Red came in third place in the same tournament.
