No. 13 Men's Lacrosse Rolls Over Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The No. 13 Swarthmore College men's lacrosse team dominated the opening half en route to a 20-8 win at Messiah University on Saturday.
 
The Garnet outscored the Falcons, 12-2, in the first half, including a 10-0 run over 19 minutes of game time. Swarthmore continued to pull away with five straight goals to start the third quarter and cruised the rest of the way.
 
Fourteen players notched at least one point for the Garnet and 13 different athletes found the back of the net. Clay Almgren (3G, 3A) and Emmett Harris (2G, 4A) led the way with six points apiece. Michael Hardiman, Owen Hoffman, and Ryder Maston all tallied two goals and an assist. Drew Tyson stopped 10 shots in nearly 40 minutes in the cage.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hardiman opened the scoring just 18 seconds into the contest. Maston found the back of the net at the 9:14 mark before Messiah got on the board at 7:20 to get within one (2-1).
 
- Swarthmore took a commanding lead with 10 unanswered goals that led to a 12-1 advantage with 2:09 to go in the second quarter. Almgren scored all three of his goals during the surge with Rex Mabbs and Hoffman scoring two apiece. The Falcons broke their scoring drought with 1:29 left in the period and trailed 12-2 at halftime.
 
- The Garnet netted the first five goals of the second half, from five different players, for their largest lead of the day (17-2). Messiah got them all back consecutively to cut the deficit back to 10 (17-7) with 14:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. Swarthmore produced three of the last four goals to close out the victory.
