Men’s Basketball Outlasts Albright in Back-and-Forth Battle

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's basketball team held off Albright College in a gritty 74-65 victory on Tuesday night.

Eddie Paquette dazzled for the Garnet, scoring a career-high 23 points to lead all scorers. The senior knocked down a game-high four threes, while adding six rebounds to his resume.

Jonathan Stump made the most of his expanded role, logging key minutes in his first-career start. The junior big-man totaled a career-high 14 points, recording his first collegiate game with double-digit points. He was the team's second leading scorer for the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stump made an immediate impact in his first-career start, scoring the game's first basket and grabbing a rebound on the Lions' opening possession. Both teams remained within an arm's length of each other until Paquette drained threes on back-to-back trips, taking a 10-3 lead.

- Albright pulled within a point until Stump hit from beyond the arc to give the Garnet some breathing room, 13-9. The Lions tied the game a couple different times before Paquette knocked down a three to put the Garnet back in front, 22-19.

- The Lions found themselves in front after stringing together six-straight points with 6:28 remaining. Moments later, the teams traded leads after Matthew Mahoney scored on an and-one layup. The Lions then responded with a three, before Ryan Chu connected from deep to put Swarthmore ahead, 31-30.

- The opening half saw nine lead changes and six ties as both teams battled in a back-and-forth showdown. The Garnet led for the majority of the half, but the Lions escaped with a two-point advantage to head into halftime, 38-36.

- In the second half, Stump tied the game with an early three-ball, before Paquette hit from deep to give Swarthmore an edge, 42-41. The Garnet then found its rhythm with a pair of Paquette free throws and an Andrew Park triple, taking a five-point lead with 14:54 left.

- After the Lions hit from deep to pull within three points, Nyle Coleman drained a triple from the top of the arc off a give-and-go from Stump. Both teams went several minutes without a field goal until the Lions counterpunched with a three-ball, pulling within four at the 7:58 mark.

- Looking from some separation, Paquette scored his 20th point on a fastbreak layup after Stump intercepted an Albright pass. The senior then posted up a Lions' guard for a hard-fought, and-one layup, putting his squad ahead by nine points, 65-56.

- Albright knocked down a couple late threes to remain within striking distance. The Lions came as close as six points of the lead, but the Garnet sealed the game with three late free throws to put the visitors away.
