No. 15 Women’s Soccer Wins Sixth Straight, Rolls Past Muhlenberg

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The No. 15 Swarthmore College women's soccer team captured its sixth-straight victory with a 2-0 win at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday night. The Garnet improved to a perfect 5-0 in the Centennial.

Swarthmore's defense put on another stellar performance, posting its fifth-straight shutout and ninth of the season. The Garnet have not conceded a goal since September 20, and have held opponents scoreless for 487-consecutive minutes. Bedward saved her only two attempts for her fourth clean sheet of the season.

Sydney Ross scored her first goal of the season in the 41st minute to give the Garnet a halftime lead. Ava Gizzie then added on an insurance tally in the 46th minute, stretching their goal streak to seven-consecutive games. With tonight's goal, Gizzie surpassed their previous career-best of six-straight games from their rookie campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore controlled the pace of play in the opening half, outshooting its opponent 14-2. Gizzie was responsible for the team's first legitimate scoring threat with a shot in the 29th minute. The junior chipped the ball to the far post, forcing the keeper to make a diving attempt. Muhlenberg's keeper bobbled the attempt, nearly allowing a charging Charlotte Carleton to corral the rebound, but the keeper was able to regain possession before the Garnet.

- Later in the half, Jordan Vrees and Nicole Jensen broke Gizzie into open space to set up a breakaway attempt. The junior outran the only defender in the area, but fired a strike just wide of the near post.

- Swarthmore's persistent attack paid off in the 41st minute for the game's opening score. Following a corner kick, Ross collected a loose ball in the box and then lofted a shot over a leaping defender and into the corner of the goal, making it 1-0.

- After coming close on a couple chances in the opening half, the Mules could not keep Gizzie off the scoreboard for long. The junior wasted no time in the second half, scoring in the first minute of the stanza to give the Garnet a two-goal advantage. Gizzie got behind the defense, but had their first attempt kicked away by the keeper. Jensen then controlled the rebound and fed a pass to Gizzie, who rocketed their second-chance past the keeper.

- After being held completely in check by Swarthmore's defense, Muhlenberg earned a free kick just outside the box to set up a quality scoring chance. The Mules played the attempt on goal, but were denied by a nice read from Bedward.
