HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Garnet pressured early with five shots within the opening 10 minutes. Kanellakos had her shot punched over the top by the goalkeeper while Gizzie hit the left post with their try. However, it was the Bears who struck first as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 14
th minute. Ursinus converted to take a 1-0 lead.
- Swarthmore evened the score in the 19
th minute as
Charlotte Carleton sent in a cross from the left side that was tapped in by Jensen for her second goal of the season. The Garnet then went in front eight minutes later. Kanellakos had a shot go off the left post but a foul on the rebound gave Swarthmore a penalty kick opportunity. Kanellakos buried it to put her team ahead 2-1.
- The Garnet continued to rack up shots in the second half and Gizzie gave them a two-goal cushion in the 58
th minute. The junior potted a low free kick from the top of the 18 to make it 3-1. It was their team-leading ninth goal of the year and they have scored in eight consecutive contests.
- Swarthmore limited the Bears to five shots in the second half and
Dahlia Bedward stopped the only shot that was on target.
